<dc:title>Isle of Man Mental Hospital Guardianship forms</dc:title>
<dc:description>This series contains forms that recorded the entry of individuals to the care of the Isle of Man Mental Hospital, under the provisions of the 1924 Mental Diseases Act. These were individuals classified by the Act as 'Idiots' or 'Imbeciles', distinct from 'Lunatics' that the Mental Hospital was established to care for [these terms had a distinct medical definition at the time]. The legislation enabled the Mental Hospital to take on a guardianship role for those admitted on these terms. </dc:description>
