The new Airports Board were responsible for the operation of Ronaldsway airport which had been purchased by the Isle of Man Government in 1947. After the transition to ministerial government in the mid 1980s, government departments replaced the board system and the functions of the Airports Board were transferred to the Department of Highways, Ports and Properties in May 1986.
