TitleIsle of Man Ballamona Hospital Patients' Case Files
Date[circa 1920]-1968
DescriptionIndividual file for each patient that stayed in the Hospital until its closure in the 1990s. They continue the type of medical register registered in the Case Books (S22/4/1), in a different format and with more extensive medical information. Documents inside include:
- correspondence;
- copy of admission papers;
- notices of departure or death;
- admission case sheets;
- treatment consent forms (dental, electrical shocks or operations);
- mental health history sheets;
- clinical records;
- envelopes that contained patients' belongings.
NotesIn this catalogue you may find terminology or language included in historical record titles and descriptions that are today considered offensive or pejorative. These terms have been retained in the catalogue in order to reflect the historical accuracy of the record. All such terms will appear in inverted commas and they are in no way representative of views or opinions of the Isle of Man Government in the 21st Century. The only exception where inverted commas have not been used is for administrative bodies that carried the expression 'Lunatic' in their title, as this was the formal name of the institution itself. Physical DescriptionBanker boxes organised by surname, with upright original folders containing the patients' medical information. To be repackaged, as the folders contain metal parts, and listed, as the files have different access periods.
