NotesIn this catalogue you may find terminology or language included in historical record titles and descriptions that are today considered offensive or pejorative. These terms have been retained in the catalogue in order to reflect the historical accuracy of the record. All such terms will appear in inverted commas and they are in no way representative of views or opinions of the Isle of Man Government in the 21st Century. The only exception where inverted commas have not been used is for administrative bodies that carried the expression 'Lunatic' in their title, as this was the formal name of the institution itself. We apologise for any offence that our inclusion of these words may cause.

Arrangement of SeriesThese records arrived under the title 'Miscellaneous Correspondence' in a Banker's style box and subdivided into unordered office boxes and envelopes. They seem to have been maintained by Dr Skene. There is a chronological - although imprecise - order and a sub-organisation to the correspondence that was not tampered with.
The correspondence was split into 5 boxes due to preservation needs and each covers roughly the following years:
-box 4/1: 1945-1946
-box 4/2: 1940-1942
-box 4/3: 1940-1944
-box 4/4: 1935-1939
-box 4/5: 1940-1941
The physical division in smaller containers was maintained by transferring those records into folders.
